Description

AFLAS® O-Rings, also known as FEPM or TFE/P O-Rings, are high-performance O-shaped sealing rings made from tetrafluoroethylene propylene copolymer. They offer exceptional resistance to aggressive chemicals, high temperatures, and steam, outperforming standard FKM (Viton®) in alkaline, amine, and hot-water environments, although their typical minimum operating temperature is only -20°C.

AFLAS® is the registered global brand for FEPM products, exclusively developed, manufactured, and marketed by AGC Inc. (formerly Asahi Glass Co., Ltd.) in Japan. Originally launched in 1975 as the world’s first alternating copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene, AFLAS® includes key grades such as 100S, 150P, 150E, 200P, 300S, and 600X for high-performance sealing applications.

Material Data Sheet

The following table presents the physical properties and fluid resistance performance of our standard AFLAS® (FEPM / TFE/P) O-ring material, formulated to meet ASTM D2000 M2HK710 specifications. All test results are based on cured compounds tested per the indicated ASTM methods, including heat ageing, compression set, and exposure to fluid and steam.

This is the Material Data Sheet (MDS) for our standard 75 Shore A AFLAS® (FEPM / TFE/P) compound. Savvy Rubber also offers and routinely tests 50, 60, 80, and 90 Shore A AFLAS® (FEPM / TFE/P) formulations. If you require data for other hardness grades, please contact our sales team.

Features

FEPM / AFLAS® O-rings deliver superior chemical resistance, especially to alkalis, amines, and hot steam, significantly outperforming standard FKM in these environments. With continuous service up to 230°C (446°F) and excellent ozone and UV weatherability, they perform reliably in harsh conditions. Compatible with fuels, oils, and brake fluids, AFLAS® also offers reliable electrical insulation and low gas permeability, balancing strength and compression set for diverse sealing needs.

Applications

FEPM / AFLAS® O-rings are the top choice for harsh environments where standard FKM underperforms. Key applications include geothermal and oil & gas drilling (resisting steam and sour gas), chemical processing (handling strong alkalis), and automotive systems (coolants and brake fluids). They also serve critical roles in nuclear, semiconductor, and food industries due to their high purity and electrical insulation. Beyond O-rings, AFLAS® (FEPM / TFE/P) material is widely molded into gaskets, diaphragms, hoses, and wire insulation for diverse custom sealing needs.
