Your Trusted China Hammer Union Seals Manufacturer & Supplier
Our factory produces Hammer Union Seals in NBR rubber for standard applications, FKM for enhanced thermal and chemical resistance, HNBR for sour gas service, and PTFE for extreme conditions. In addition to the standard full rubber seals, the anti-extrusion design can be reinforced in brass Hammer Union Seals or stainless steel Hammer Union Seals.
What are Hammer Union Seals?
Hammer Union Seals are specialized sealing components designed for hammer union-style pipe connections, creating leak-proof flow paths in high-pressure fluid systems. When the union’s threaded end, nut end, and hammer nut are tightened, the seal assembly compresses to form a dual barrier, with the metal insert locking into the seal groove. At the same time, the elastomer fills micro-gaps between components.
The Types of Hammer Union Seals
Savvy can supply you with the best hammer union seal rings in various sizes, including 602, 1002, 1502, 2002, and 2202, which are suitable for API 6A compliant valves manufactured by Weco, FMC, Kemper, and other companies.
Standard Lip Seals: The most common type, made of elastomers like NBR/FKM/HNBR for general pressure/temperature service.
Anti-Extrusion Seals: Integrate brass or stainless steel rings to prevent deformation under high pressure (e.g., 15,000 psi).
RGD-Resistant Seals: Engineered with modified HNBR for sour gas service to prevent explosive decompression failure.
PTFE Seals: Ideal for extreme chemical corrosion or ultra-high temperatures in specialised industries.
The Materials of Hammer Union Seals
There are four primary materials for Hammer Union Seals: NBR, HNBR, FKM, and PTFE. Each delivers targeted performance in critical sealing applications.
1. NBR / Nitrile (Shore A 80-90)
The go-to material for standard service, resistant to oils, fuels, and water-based fluids. Operating range: -40°C to +120°C. Cost-effective for non-sour drilling and chemical pipelines. 80°-90° hardness balances flexibility and abrasion resistance, compatible with FIG 1002/1502 unions.
2. FKM / Viton® (Shore A 90)
Delivers superior heat resistance (-20°C to +200°C) and chemical stability against acids, hydrocarbons, and H₂S. 90° hardness ensures reliability under high pressure, ideal for steel mills and sour oil fields.
3. HNBR / Hydrogenated Nitrile (Shore A 80)
Developed for sour gas service with exceptional H₂S and explosive decompression resistance. Operating range: -30°C to +150°C. 80° hardness provides dynamic sealing flexibility, commonly used in FIG 2002/2202 unions.
4. PTFE (Shore D 55)
Near-inert chemical stability withstands strong acids, alkalis, and temperatures exceeding 300 °C. It is used in static seals for nuclear and specialty chemical industries, often reinforced for high-pressure integrity.
Hammer Union Seal Dimensions
Standard dimensions for Hammer Union Seals cover 1 inch to 12 inch nominal sizes, with 2”, 3”, and 4” being the most commonly used configurations. Critical parameters include ID (Inner Diameter), OD (Outer Diameter), and Height.

The Advantages of Hammer Union Seals
Hammer Union Seals provide critical operational advantages in demanding environments, including:
- Ultra-High Pressure Integrity - The composite design withstands a working pressure of 15,000 PSI (tested to 22,500 PSI). Brass or stainless steel anti-extrusion rings enhance the limits.
- Extreme Environment Resistance - Custom materials (e.g., HNBR for H₂S, FKM for heat) are designed to withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to +300°C and resist aggressive chemicals.
- Explosive Decompression Safety - Sour gas-resistant formulations prevent seal rupture due to gas permeation, as a critical requirement for hazardous operations.
- Misalignment Tolerance - Lip seal geometry compensates for minor pipe deviations (e.g., mud tanks), maintaining leak-proof seals at 500 PSI.
- Rapid Installation and Maintenance - The Hammer union design enables quick assembly without flange alignment, reducing downtime.
The Applications of Hammer Union Seals
Hammer Union Seals are critical for fluid systems in energy and heavy industries, including Mud pumping lines and fracturing iron roughnecks in oil and gas drilling, chemical corrosive transfer pipelines, high-temperature cooling systems in steel mills, sediment discharge lines on dredging vessels, and hydraulic fracturing equipment in surface mining. Their pressure tolerance and environmental resilience make them ideal for mobile equipment that requires frequent disassembly (e.g., modular drilling rig pipelines) while maintaining leak-proof reliability even with minor pipe misalignment, which significantly reduces unplanned downtime.
